I stayed 10 days on Galapagos. It was a fascinating experience. There are two groups of people. One which find the islands ugly and the other one that finds it awesome! Have to say, that for me they are (although I saw only 3 of them) very interesting. Although I didn´t like the volcanic scenery at first, I was fascinated by it later on. I am hugely impressed by the possibility of being so close to animals: various species of birds, turtles (both land and sea ones), iguanas, sea lions. It´s a surprising moment when a pelican lands 0,5m from you, looks at you and...smiles at you :)
I was living in Puerto Ayora, visited Santa Cruz island, Floriana, snorkelled with sea lions and turtles, dived (after 5 years, WOW! Sea lions were playing with me, saw Black Mantras, Eagle Spotted Mantras, Hammerheads, Black Tip Sharks, lot´s of colourful fishes etc.), saw post vulcano stuff, chilled on the white sand beaches, ate some seafood and some typical Ecuadorian food.
The phenomenon of Galapagos and its diversity comes from different currents that affect the archipelag. Panama Current - hot from north and Peru Current - colder from south.
Interesting information about turtles, directly from Charles Darwin Institute: scientists discover that the temperature (within the incubator) determines the sex of young turtles. If the temperature is over 30 the young tend to be female, if below 30 - male. Funny, isn´t it?
Sentence of the week:
¨It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change.¨
